Greetings and Leave-Takings

The first communication skill we will cover during this course has to do with greetings and leave-takings. Greetings are the expressions and gestures we use to say "hello." On the other hand, leave-takings are the expressions and gestures used to say "good-bye."
Common Expressions to Greet
  • Hi / Hello
  • Good morning / afternoon / evening
  • How are you? / How are you doing? / How do you do?
  • How is it going?
  • I'm doing well. Thank you.
  • I'm fine. Thanks.
  • Not bad. Thank you.
  • I'm OK. Thanks for asking.
Common Expressions to Take a Leave
  • Good-bye / Bye-bye / Bye
  • Good night
  • See you later / tomorrow / next week / soon
  • So long
  • Have a nice day / week
  • Nice to see you / Nice talking to you
  • Take care
The best idea is to vary the expressions you use according to the situation and the frequency so that you sound natural and not like a textbook-repeating robot.
